Being interviewed...

by kai on 29/10/2007

...is an interesting experience. Kay Smoljak didn't show any fear and interviewed me about my trip to Adobe MAX 2007 earlier this month. The interview has been published now on Kay's Sitepoint blog on ColdFusion. have fun :)

Apply to be part of the Pacifica beta

by kai on 25/10/2007

Pacifica is the codename of a new hosted service from Adobe. Its target is to provide a high quality VoIP service layer for the Flash Platform (with Flash, Flex, AIR etc). I've seen some demos of Pacifica at MAX Chicago the other week and it's pretty powerful and impressive - it took me a while to see the potential though :) Pacifica is now available as a private beta and people who are…

I've got this link from JJ yesterday. It's a scientific research paper about learning German by playing The Sims. Very interesting read!

C/C++ to ActionScript

by kai on 23/10/2007

One of my personal technical highlights of MAX 2007 was the Scott Petersen's sneak peek about potential ways of converting existing C and C++ code to AS code and to re-use it for Flash platform based apps.

There's a very good video online in Peter Elst's blog and Ryan Stewart interviewed Scott about some of the technical details. This is worth a read guys!

webDU 2008 is ON

by kai on 23/10/2007

Just got it off the ticker (well, last night, but we were having a public holiday in NZ and I was doing non-geek stuff) - webDU 2008 is on. It will be held May 7-9, 2008 at Star City in Sydney, Australia. Day 0 will again be a workshop day, followed by two days of conference.

Expect more infos, line-ups etc. during the next few weeks and big kudos to the guys from Daemon for bringing it on again!

Kay Smoljak@Sitepoint

by kai on 22/10/2007

Kay Smoljak, world-known CF- and web standards activist has started blogging about ColdFusion on sitepoint.com. I'm very happy about that because Kay is a very respected, honest, intelligent and straight-forward geek friend of mine (D*** it, I should have opted for the Cyndi Lauper concert - someone wants to sponsor my flight?) - and I'm convinced that her new blog (besides the other blogs she's…

Vodafone New Zealand "improves" roaming fees - and the lack of competition

by kai on 22/10/2007

Just the other day, I've received a SMS from Vodafone NZ asking me to ring 495 to learn about the new, streamlined and improved roaming charges. Interesting enough they're notifying their customers by SMS, but that's a different story. There are a few changes which I'm - to be polite - not really thrilled about. First of all, they've lifted up the fee for sending an SMS while roaming from 20…

My Photoshop lesson of the day: PMS colors

by kai on 18/10/2007

Yikes. For a particular reason, a printing company has asked me to provide them with the PMS colors of a particular graphic. Great - with me being design challenged and barely able to explain the concepts behind RGB and CMYK...:) Don't even start with the tricky questions of "their" world :) I finally figured out that PMS is a standard in the printing world which makes a lot of sense as you…
