blog wars, can't believe it

by kai on 18/01/2006

This is at least annoying - still trying to be polite somehow. If you haven't heard about it yet - there are some pretty big discussions going on about Ray Camdens blog CFC. Appearently some other guy took it, did modifications to it and redistributed them on his own blogsite while stripping out comments and copyright notices of Ray. So far so good, Ray didn't provide some sort of license with…

PDF is surprisingly powerful

by kai on 17/01/2006

I've just watched a recorded breezo about Adobe LiveCycle and must admit that this line of products seems to be both interesting as powerful. I never really got involved with the details of Adobe's server technologies but I guess I should better be... :)

I didn't know that people actually _build_ stuff with it... take this sudoku game in a PDF as an example.

CFDocument just showing binary dump

by kai on 17/01/2006

Got a strange issue today. I was running a page with a very simple CFDOCUMENT tag and had a typo in the tag - so ended up with a syntax error. Fixed the error and I got the whole document as a binary dump within the browser window (IE), it didn't make any difference if it was pdf or FlashPaper. But: worked fine in Firefox. Very strange, I checked if the system was on CF 7.0.1, if all hotfixes…

SE P910i-Outlook timezone issue...

by kai on 16/01/2006

This was nearly killing me, aargs. When I got down here to New Zealand I changed the timezone of my laptop computer at home to the local time and changed the timezone of my P910i as well. Well, what happend was that all of my old calendar entries in Outlook on the PC were shifted by basically 12 hours, but that should be expected. I entered all sorts of new appointments in my calendar and somehow…

First steps with Model-Glue

by kai on 14/01/2006

During the last few days I started to get my hands dirty with the Model-Glue framework. To make a long story short: I really, really like it and from my personal point of view it is by far the easiest way to get involved with the idea of using a CF development framework I know about.I've alway wanted to play with Model-Glue but never found the time to do it. Last week I was forced to (as always…

by kai on 09/01/2006

Via e-Commerce-Blog: Some bloggers reported that alle the new Dell machines are going to be shipped with Google Desktop Search pre-installed and with a personalized version with the Google homepage preset as the browsers starting page. This personalized page looks pretty good and if offers a lot of Dell content. Is this the web 3.0 ? Is Google to even increase it's sphere of influence? No and…

Soccer World Cup

by kai on 08/01/2006

Well, yes - I know. Soccer is pretty much unknown in a lot of countries of this world. But I'm still a German - so I'll have to enjoy soccer, it's somehow in my genes. It's a bit difficult to follow the German Major League (Bundesliga) from New Zealand, especially watching games is nearly impossible. But by using some websites it's at least fairly simple to follow the results. This years Soccer…

Adobe: A new press and marketing agency in Europe

by kai on 08/01/2006

After the merger of Adobe and Macromedia, the new Adobe Central Europe seems to have sent the pink slip to Macromedia Central Europe's press and communication/marketing agency Conosco. That's pretty sad as Conosco did an extremely good job jointly with Stefan Prestele from Macromedia Central Europe. Just the other day I've received the first two press releases via the new agency and - well I…

Speaking at webDU

by kai on 08/01/2006

I'm going to be in Sydney for webDU and I'm going to give a session on "Creating output with ColdFusion". It will cover different approaches how to create outout besides the old, common, boring HTML page ;) I'll cover stuff as CFREPORT and the report builder, CFDOCUMENT and maybe some more interesting approaches to create print-ready content with CF. Anyway, webDU is going to be a huge event this…
