Title: Rich Internet Applications with Adobe Flex and Java
Abstract: Adobe’s Rich Client platform Flex 2.0 was released in July 2006. It allows developers to push the user experience of web-based applications to a new level of sophistication. This talk will provide an introduction to RIA development with Adobe Flex 2, and discuss how Flex integrates with existing backend applications or other client applications written in Java.
We will have a look at the basic structure of a Flex application, play with a few UI components and concepts, such as data binding in the client, before we move on to Java-based remote objects and web services. We will also look into Flex Data Services, which support data management and real-time messaging, and we’ll see how to write a Java application for Flex Data Services.
The presentation will finish with a brief outlook on upcoming technologies in the Flex/Adobe space, such as Apollo – which will allow Flex-based RIAs to integrate with the world of desktop applications.
