Flying news

Some people might remember that I’ve started my aviation “career” a bit more than one year back from now. Well, at some point in early March 2007 I’ve done a trial flight at the local Aero Club down at Wellington International. Last July I started my training towards the New Zealand PPL to become a private pilot and I’m finally getting there.

My plan was to get throught the training and all the exams by April-ish this year, but time and weather constraints are not going to make that happen I assume. There are a few overseas trips upcoming in May, June and July and that will make it difficult to get in done in those months as well, so it will be August.

At the moment, I’m pretty much through all the practical exercises and lessons besides cross-country flying which won’t happen until I’ve got all the written exams sorted out. Speaking of which, 3 done (Flight radio and telephony, Navigation and Aircraft technology) – 3 more to go: Human Factors (2morrow), Air Law and Met. My hours count is at 50something, I’m flying a lot of solo at the moment to ramp up my solo hours to the minimum required for the practical flight test and wait for things (and exams) to happen πŸ™‚

I have kayaked through Abel Tasman, but it looks even better from the air! I figure we can both be moral support for each other. I am a year and a half into my training, and just about to start the cross country portion. Of course, now the onAIR European Tour is going to push it back even further. Oh well, I guess I will just have to fly even more when I get back πŸ™‚

Probably due for a redesign (and maybe I should rebuild in Flex) but useful nonetheless.
