Cricket without Flash ;)

Yesterday I went to a great game of cricket. Well, technically it would have been one…

Pakistan, India and Australia play a one-day tournament in Holland as some sort of preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy in England in September 2004. Yesterday, Australia was up to play India in Amstelveen (which is neer Amsterdam which is about a two hour drive from my location in Germany). We drove over with several people from my cricket club, the DSC Blackcaps. When we arrived, it started raining, so the pitch inspection was postponed from 10 am to 11:30 am to 12:30 am to 1:30 pm when the umpires and the captains decided to go for a 3 pm start for a 32-over-game. Well… Australia won the toss and they decided to bat first. The team got a quite good run rate in the first overs but slowed down a bit during the 15th to 25th over. After 31.4 overs, when it started to rain again – and that WAS a REAL rain – they scored 175 for 7, which was the end of the game regarding the facts that there was a dripping wet pitch and sunset approaching as it was 6 pm nearly. At all it was a no result game – but lots of fun, beer (at least for some of us šŸ˜‰ and dirty/wet clothes for all šŸ˜‰

Another thing I’d like to mention. There were lots of India fans on the ground and some Aussie-related guys like me. I always wonder how cricket games are so peacefull and friendly among the visitors. You know, all people had fun together and watched 31.4 great overs. No fighting, killing, throwing things on each other like in soccer stadiums. It’s even no deal to place the crowd of both teams on one common stand. That’s how life and this world should be!
