Soccer World Cup

Well, yes – I know. Soccer is pretty much unknown in a lot of countries of this world. But I’m still a German – so I’ll have to enjoy soccer, it’s somehow in my genes.

It’s a bit difficult to follow the German Major League (Bundesliga) from New Zealand, especially watching games is nearly impossible. But by using some websites it’s at least fairly simple to follow the results.

This years Soccer World Cup creates a tough task. First support was my soccer-maniac ex-co-worker Michael Jung, who posted an entry on a tiny Outlook-addon which creates all the necessary calendar entries related to the Soccer World Cup. This is good, especially as I’m running my Outlook with two timezones and so I’ve got an idea now when the games are on in New Zealand time.

But that doesn’t solve my issues with watching the games. But Michael was vey supportive again and posted several links to streaming websites where you can watch sport events via the internet. I’m going to dig into that.

Or – even better: Anybody interested in placing a webcam in front of the TV during some World Cup games and sending them down to New Zealand in a Breeze Meeting room or via Skype or so…? HELP!

Nice calendar, that one! Too bad I don’t use Outlook; I hope someone converts that to Sunbird format..

And, ‘pretty much unknown’? Football is the most popular sport in the world on all accounts.

Anyways, if push comes to shove and you don’t get any video streaming, FIFA will have ‘scorebots’ on their website, publishing information about each game as they happen.

Surely they will be on satellite TV in NZ? I watched the entire 2002 world cup in oz with no problems.

Hi Kai,

how’s life in New Zealand?

I would suggest you to buy an DVB-S Card for your computer and record the matches on your PC.
Webcam in front of TV? Of course someone has to stream his/her DVB stream over a FCS, every other solution should be scorned, especially on this site 😉
