You might have noticed that Adobe released an RDS plugin for Eclipse. It’s officially known as a “ColdFusion Extension for Flex Builder 2.0”, but at least the recent version works totally smoothly without Flex Builder 2.0 beta but with CF Eclipse.
As it seems that there was some confusion around it regarding the required (CF)Eclipse version etc., I’m running Eclipse 3.1.1 and a nightly build of the plugin that’s roughly 2 weeks old. No issues with installing the RDS plugin at all for me.
In terms of functionality it’s just great. The plugin provides you with the common connectivity to CF via RDS. You can browse the file system, access your datasources and it even comes with a visual query builder. Awesome stuff, guys!
Not to mention the CFC and AS generation wizards that are tied into the query view. Very nice stuff. If you are not using some kind of ORM or generation tool, I cant imagine a faster way to get your remoting objects built for flex 2.
For more fun, right click on a db table in the RDS Data View and try the CFC Wizards.
