MXDU: morning of Day 1

by kai on 17/02/2005

Woke way too late this morning. I wanted to be downstairs early to support Daemon with setting up all the things in the conference area, damn! So I arrived down there at 8:30 am and ran into Sean Corfield who I met yesterday already to say hello, but we didn’t find time to chat.

The keynote was opened by Geoff Bowers and handed over to Mark Blair (server manager of MM AsiaPac). He showed two amazing Flex applications (both still prototypes) which are going to be live during the next weeks. One is some sort of e-Commerce system for ordering spare parts for cars. The other one is a frontend to an already existing flight booking application. The latter is done by the folks from Rocketboots and is developed using the Cairngorm framework completely. Great!

After that Tim Buntel did a very entertaining preso of CF 7, he didn’t say a word for the first 15 minutes, he just acted and danced on the stage like in the silent movies of the early last century. During that time he showed demos of CF 7s new functionalities and possibilities. Great fun and after being the host of famous shows like “Good morning developer” etc. Tim again proved that he could be a successful entertainer or comedian also šŸ˜‰

My preso went well so far although some thing didn’t work out as exactly expected. But my impression was that the audience felt quite comfortable with that and due to the work the folks at WSI in Essen my English becomes better every year šŸ˜‰

Sean Corfields session on Fusebox and Mach II was great and very informative. A lot of people out there seem to be unsure about all the framework stuff and what to chose for their development. Seans preso might be very helpful for all those people as he provided demo apps in traditional Fusebox, OO-Fusebox and Mach II to compare the different approaches. I won’t tell you the conclusion, ask him šŸ˜‰

After that I went to interview Tim Buntel for the next issue of Germanys MX Magazin. We talked about a lot of things around CF 7, future plans of Macromedia in terms of ColdFusion and some stories around the CF development itself. If you want to learn more about that, you’d probably have to buy the mag…

Are recording the event? I always get a kick out of your “music videos” of flash conferences.

Might I suggest “Men at work” as your theme music. šŸ™‚
